So this shadow box has been used for the same few old pictures for the past couple of years and today inspiration struck while I was cleaning my room. From now on I'm going to use it to house mood boards that will hopefully rotate with my current obsessions and DIY ideas. So as they change I will be sharing them for you my loyal readers to see and maybe get inspired by as well.

Sorry about the weird lighting, my camera made it super yellowy, so I tried to correct it as best as I could, luckily most of the pieces are pretty neutral so it doesn't affect it too much.

Today is my lil ol' blogs first birthday!! And even though I just started a new blog, Heavy Fashion, I haven't forgotten about my first born. I'm still really trying to work on how I write because there are a lot of things I would like to do that I'm not. Am I the only one who thinks that its practically a requirement to own a pair of Jeffrey Campbell shoes to be a successful fashion blogger these days? Maybe I'm being dramatic but after 11 days of entering the Solestruck 12 days of JC shoes I'm pretty much ready to give up! But then on the 12th day, they unveiled THE JC shoe of the blogosphere. That's right, the LITA. Want in? Get in line behind me! and hope your christmas wish is worthy of this prize. I'm partial to the taupe suede because I know I would get a lot of use out of it, but something about the glitter just KILLS me. When I first saw these shoes I was unsure about them. Strange was the first thing to come to mind. But after a minute I decided they were more whimsical and fun, as I'm sure they were meant to be, then I'm used to. A break from the clunky black wedges I usually lust after. Of course these aren't shoes I would wear exactly. But I think they could definitely make any outfit interesting. Who knows, maybe the design will trickle down the retail chains and in a year we'll all want a pair of animal heels. But for now I'll just enjoy this delicate and intricate design.

There is a reason I typically avoid commenting on clothes, and focus mainly on shoes. When I read people's assessment of the latest lines and designers I am simply awestruck by the knowledge they have of not only the history of the designer or fashion in general, but also their ability to dissect specific inspirations and fabrics. To me, clothes in the fashion industry are this huge ridiculously complicated entity that I don't think I have even begun to appreciate or understand yet. Because of this I stick to accessories and shoes, which in my mind are more independent in that people don't focus on their history as much. It is true that there are still those people out there who know and appreciate them as much, or even more so, then the clothes, but this is my rationalization.

That being said, when I saw this dress I knew I had to attempt to do it justice in a post. I am just obsessed with the combination of the tulle and lace, the sexiness that comes from the sheer lace being covered seemingly haphazardly by sheer tulle, and the structure that comes from the lines on the chest and the shoulders. It doesn't hurt that Blake Lively is wearing it, and she happens to be a fashion favorite of mine.

I'm not a fan of the shoes she paired with it, but I respect the attempt at the correlation with the sheer. But maybe I over think things.

Ruthie Davis tweeted this teaser of her S2011 collection and it has definitely gotten me super excited to see what more she has up her sleeve! Such a departure from the dark and tough heels I posted here, but you can still tell they're from the same designer, an amazing feat. I'm loving the combination of neutrals with metallic, and of course the hot pink sole! Also of course, the exposed heel, made a little more interesting with the combo of wooden and traditional materials. Killer! Can't wait to see the rest of the collection.

I am completely in love with everything about Miroslava Duma. She seems to have everything in life and is now pregnant and still looking amazing. This post was put into the works back in July when I first found out who The Ideal was. I could add hundreds of more photos of her perfection but I'll leave it at this for now. She's rich, has amazing style, is a talented editor and writer, and is charitable, turns out the ideal extends beyond the skin.

I watched the documentary "Seamless" last night, which followed the participants and judges of the first CFDA award. Which happened to go to Proenza Schouler, deservedly so. It was a really interesting look at some very important people in the fashion industry and I loved watching the two creators of this iconic brand. They seemed so lovable and genuine, I hope they haven't changed their personalities. As for their fashions, ever changing and amazing.

(As much as it irritates the academic in me to spell things falsely for symmetry, I couldn't pass the opportunity up.) I guess we're seeing a theme today. Another coveted thing that I slacked on blogging and then decided it was a neccesity. These nail polishes have been making the rounds for a bit and are definitely highly anticipated. Between me, my mother, and my sister we have a small fortune invested in nail polish, which is rather odd since I'm not the best at keeping up with my nails. But anyway, back to the point, when I first saw these I thought, wow pretty but not anything new or inherently eye-catching, yet I would still buy one if I happened upon it. Then I saw Garance Dore's most recent illustration and I knew right away it was from the exciting collection. Seeing it on fingernails (even if they are of the fictional kind!) made me truly realize the potential of these awesomely neutral shades. My favorite is definitely Khaki Vert, but by a tiny margin.

Now I'm just going to cross my fingers and hope that they don't sell out too quickly!

So in this case I'm not actually late to the game with these clutches. I was just reading an informative article about Kindles and was all of a sudden inspired to look them up again because I remembered how much I love reading. And well I just had to document them on my blog because they truly are right up my alley. I kind of wish they used the original cover art, thats the nerd in me, but the fashion part of my brain loves the fun whimsical takes on the classics. My favorite design is The Great Gatsby, but I've never actually read it! My favorite book out of the selection is definitely The Importance of being Earnest. Such a good read. Anyway, for just $325 you can look smart and fashionable in a truly unique way.

Remember those amazing Dsquared shoes that pulled me out of my coma, and that I then posted a follow up about another version on Sea of Shoes? Well, while browsing one of my blog staples, Haute Macabre, I discovered something kind of overwhelming. FIrst, that there are numerous other versions of this amazing shoe,

and Second that they are from this runway show that I posted about, and that slightly underwhelmed me. I'm not completely blind, I actually did go back to my original Dsquared post to look for the shoes before posting about them for the first time, but I didn't see anything familiar. The other day I posted a pair of amazing Dsquared shoes as seen on Jak & Jil that completely inspired me to start blogging more frequently. Then today, as I was catching up on Sea of Shoes, I happened upon a picture of the exact same shoes, plus another version.

Here is a close-up of the heel on the original pair. I am still amazed by the beauty of this heel. I love how they made it authentic looking with the wear marks.

While I still like the original strappy pair better, this bootie version is just as interesting, and I would just die if I ever got the chance to own either one.

I absolutely LOVE these Dolce and Gabbana wedges. They remind me so much of a painting. I wouldn't even be able to reference an artist because, well I know absolutely nothing about art or painters, but I love the unexpectedness of this shoe. From far away it looks like a simple black wedge, but it is such a pretty close-up. They really make me want to go to a museum.

Lame title, I realize, but onto more important matters. I seem to always be drawn to interesting shoes, as I'm sure you've already noticed. I don't think about it when I first save the pictures, but I never gravitate towards simple shoes. Just the other day I was at Target with my sister and a friend when they started talking about a pair of basic black heels, something I don't think I'd ever spend money on. Ever since reading Victoria Beckham's book "That extra half an inch" I've wanted a pair of tan heels to 'elongate my legs', but I've never actually bought a pair. In my mind, if I'm going to go through the pain that heels give me, I'm at least going to have something interesting on my feet. I don't know how people do it, but I can't even make it through a night at a club in heels, let alone a day of traipsing around NYC, Paris, or wherever the fashionistas happen to be at the moment. Photos of these Nicolas Kirkwood shoes have been doing the rounds on the blogs lately after being used in the most recent Rodarte show. Personally, I think shoes should get their own fashion show. No clothes necessary. Separate from regular fashion week. Maybe I'll start it....

I watched the Rodarte show online and despite some serious technical issues I managed to see most of the looks. I did not, however, see these shoes. Maybe in person it was easier to take it all in, but I'm feeling a little gypped (I definitely wanted to spell that jipped. fail). They should of just set the camera on the ground so I could watch the shoes and clothes simultaneously. But either way, the pictures are here now and they're spectacular.

Everyone seems to be fixated on the illuminating part, which is cool, but I think the awesome melting heel detail is just as amazing. I guess not as difficult as getting light inside a shoe, but I appreciate the detail.

So in downtown Orlando on Monday nights there is a night at Backbooth (the club/bar) called Crush (after Pauly Crush, the DJ). So if you're still with me I'll explain. I found this picture on their image feed on facebook of one of the partygoers at the club (bar? whatever). I don't know where these shoes are from. Could be Forever 21 for all I know, but they caught my eye and I figured I'd share.

As I'm sure you all already know, Alexander McQueen passed away today. While I don't at all want to sound like I'm over-dramatizing my feelings due to this tragic event, I truly do believe Alexander McQueen was my favorite designer. I've never considered picking a favorite before, but remembering all the things he's done and realizing how much potential has been lost, I can't help but feel like his impact was greater on me then anyone else's. I truly can't fathom a world where I don't have new amazing McQueen shoes to post every season. His name has always been synonymous with style to me. Now what? I won't even try and pretend like I know. But sometime soon I will be put up a "Best Of" post to showcase his talent, as well as my favorite pieces. A little walk down memory lane.

Unfortunately, it will have to wait a bit since I'm currently completely swamped at school. But I haven't been this sad about a future post ever.

Here's to a man I didn't know personally, I had never met, I had never given much thought, and here's to a designer who I felt like I had known all my life, I had understood on all levels, and I had thought about frequently.

The glamourai posted this awesome Alice in Wonderland inspired ad. She had some others along with it but this one really caught my eye. It looked SO familiar. I realized immediately that it was the gorgeous gold frock that Anna Dello Russo donned in this post I made recently. (P.S. did you know that Anna NEVER wears makeup?! so jealous...) So of course I had to post it. Not only because of my love for everything AiW inspired, but because I love when I see a dress worn different ways. So here you go!

My sister bought this nail polish from the new OPI Alice in Wonderland collection, "Mad as a Hatter". I absolutely adore it! I went and got a pedicure with it, and I painted my nails to match. I never do my nails and toes the same color, I love it that much! It pretty much looks like you were doing arts and crafts and spilled glitter glue on your fingernails. Its so crazy fun! Every time I look at my nails it brightens my day.

My favorite shoe lover over at seaofshoes posted this outfit today. I adore the blazer but my heart and brain are in a feud. The shoes are amazing too. I'll just call it a tie. So sophisticated, but edgy with the duct tape and chained boots. gimme!

Bought some really awesome vintage BCBG Max Azria shoes at a shop, Persona, in downtown Gainesville. Though the soles are hardly worn so I'm not really sure how old they actually are. I tried style.com but didn't find anything enlightening. Pictures coming later?!

Crisis Mode

So after watching an interview with Jane Aldridge of Sea of Shoes, in which she cited Luxirare as her favorite blog, I had to give it a second chance. I'd looked at it once before and honestly I didn't get it. But now I do. Not only do I get it, but I think its genius. And her latest post sealed the deal for me. She did a post on how to make a pair of shoes. Which has been one of my dream projects for a long time. I, unfortunately, am extremely impatient, poor, and busy. But reading this post about making shoes really made me wish I'd forgone traditional college for fashion school. I mean instead of studying for a calculus exam this weekend, I could be pouring through pounds of fabric, looking for the perfect leather for the new boots I was going to make. And to think, I thought I had my life all figured out. But I'm the planner, not the risk taker. I'll stick with the college thing and finish it, because thats what successful people do. They go to college, get degrees, go out into the real world and work. They don't leave college to make shoes, and live in some fabulous city just taking in the fashion. Thats not what I do. My mom would be devastated. Not to mention, she wouldn't pay for this new found life. So I'll stay here and spend my days hanging out with the future CEOs of America, instead of the Carrie Bradshaws of this world, which is who I truly belong with. My heart just isn't in this academic thing anymore. Is this really what I've busted my ass for so long for?

Trend Alert: Cob web shirts?

When I first saw the shirt on Miley I thought it was definitely an interesting find but then a similar design popped up on Jak & Jil and the wheels in my head began to turn. The bottom version is more on the netty side then Miley's but you get the idea. The peek of skin beneath the edgy fabric definitely makes for a sexy take on grunge.

Schooooool's. out. for. summer!

Now that school is back in session I have been super busy and kind of lost myself for a second there sometime between Calculus homework and business lectures. But I'm back on track and ready to get this blog to reach its full potential.

So in looking through stuff lately I've noticed one thing, there aren't nearly enough pictures on this blog! I mean, personally, 99% of the reason I read so many blogs is to collect the gorgeous and inspirational pictures that my fellow enthusiasts post. Whether it be of their personal style, or recent fashion shows, or even just of people's feet, I really enjoy to look at fashion. Very few bloggers entertain me with their words quite like they do with their pictures. So I went through my archives a bit and made a New Years resolution to post lots more pictures on my blog. I know, its about 2 weeks late, but better late then never?

I've already begun to look into the future while this crazy weather keeps me indoors. I mean snow?! in Florida?! it's just not how things are supposed to be. So after weeks of these polar conditions, I've decided enough is enough! Time to put on some Bob Marley, crank up my heat, and reminisce about the days when throwing on one layer was sufficient and my idea of shoes was whichever worn -in pair of gladiators I could find first.

Spotlight: Anna Dello Russo

When I first read about Jak & Jil's resident photog Tomm being in love with Anna Dello Russo I got really excited to google her and see all of her amazing outfits. I have to admit I was a bit disappointed at first, but as I clicked through endless Google Images pages I realized, that while not conventional, her style is definitely something to be admired and revered. It is straight off the runway, and I am amazed by some of the things she is actually able to pull off. Anyway, here are a few of my favorite outfits of hers.

This new year completely snuck up on me. One minute I'm just hangin out, the next its a completely new decade. But anyway, I've heard enough about the new decade, so moving on to shoes. This post has absolutely no organization whatsoever. Last night while waiting for my friend I got distracted by Jak & Jil archives and fell in love with a few pairs of shoes. So, I'm just going to post them all at once so you can appreciate them too. I should probably make this a weekly thing and name it but I'm way too exhausted. I had a looooong night. My creative stuffs is all gone right now. Ok too many words, onto the shoes.

These I like because they are flowy and structured at the same time. I have yet to see such a simple idea, a black platform pump, be transformed into an interesting shoe with virtually no extra.

Epic. Amazing. Unexpected. Mind boggling.

At first I wasn't sure how I felt about these, but in the end they won me over. I couldn't even say why, just something about such simple materials being used to make a unique and high fashion shoe. Genius.

Shopping Summary

So I hit up the aforementioned Urban Outfitters sale bright and early this morning. I wanted to get up at 6 am and get to the mall right when it opened, BUT apparently life had other plans. My mom didn't wake me up until 8 am. Luckily I still managed to get to the mall before most others and check out the sale. I tried on 13 things! Which is about the most those dressing room hooks will hold. I ended up getting a $5 pair of shoes, $5 jeans, $15 dress, $10 sunglasses and a $20 romper. The romper is my absolute favorite. I've been looking for one forever and this one is absolutely perfect. Everything else is awesome too. I also hit up forever 21 and got a couple of necklaces, shirts, and a super cute peacoat.

Now if only UO was this affordable year-round. My wardrobe would be a lot better, thats for sure.

In the spirit of giving....err....actually I have nothing to give you. But! You should totally shop at Urban Outfitters tomorrow, I am super excited for their extra 50% off on sale promotion. Plus its still hot in Florida, so their on sale summer stuff is still wearable! I really am going to try and buy only school things though. I have enough dresses for awhile. If I had to rock one look every day it would definitely be this one below.

The tailored blazer and skinny jean look is one of my favorites, not to mention her hair is effortlessly cool and I'm always up for a black leather purse. Though I am just a mere mortal and will never be able to pull off this level of laid back perfection, I will always appreciate those who can.

Okay, back to playing with my presents. I already lost my TomTom..... how ironic that I lost the gadget that tells me how to find places. Ah well, time to dig under mountains of wrapping paper.

Slicked, Spiked and everything nice

This is some serious metal work on this bodice. Obviously it's not anything wearable, unless you're Gaga, but I had to post it. It's just so inspiring to me. It proves that you can make pretty clothes out of unconventional materials. The mixture of the different size spikes, chains, and other hardware is something I don't see much and its really fascinating. Plus, any outfit with a leather glove I'll probably love. Oh and I don't usually comment on makeup, but I love the bold lip with the basically naked eye on this model. Lovely.

All cuffed up

I have been admiring these cuffs for a long time. If they were more affordable they'd already be worn out to perfection. I love the idea of a cuff because they aren't conventional and, in my eyes, seriously underrated. They are stylish and actually look comfortable. Must have fall/winter accessory in warm places like florida where gloves aren't needed on a daily basis.

I have been lusting over these shoes for awhile now when just this weekend my good friend pointed out the two-tone tights the girl was wearing. Rodarte Review

None of these images are new. Everyone knows about Rodarte's collaboration with Target. I got the chance to see the collection and purchase some pieces yesterday when I found out my local store had stocked it early. They didn't have the one thing I wanted the most, the ribcage dress, but I still got a few awesome pieces. I purchased the black shoulder bow dress, the black lace cardigan, and the tan and black lace dress. In pictures I didn't actually like the cardigans but when I tried one on in the store I fell in love with it. I wish I loved the asymmetrical sweater but I found, on me, it just looked like I got dressed in the dark. My friend tried on both the bikinis and I loved the black one, but the flower one just looked odd. A lot like a bib. It probably looks good on someone but I'm not sure who. She also tried on the blue tulle dress, which I loved, but she doesn't go out much so had no use for it. The last piece I'll talk about is the leopard dress. Everyone said it was a weird fit and I didn't want to believe it but its true. The hips look like a Lady Gaga dress, super over exaggerated. Which doesn't really work with the everyday Target girl. Hopefully someone out there has a perfect fit because it would be a shame for that awesome dress to never see the street. I'm going to look for the tights, bow belt, and the ribcage dress today at a different Target. Hopefully I find a few more pieces. Well have to go get ready for manicure day with the girls. I hope you all are sifting through the Target racks as we speak.

I'm really on this Haute Macabre kick lately. So the first like 50 posts will probably mostly be from there. But I can't help it. I'm not even super goth or into things of that nature, but the pieces they post are gorgeous and very well done so I can't help but be into it. There is something about this purse that I find fascinating. It isn't especially detailed, but the chains, zipper detail, and distressed leather juxtaposed with the gorgeous slouch is enough to have me counting my pennies. Too bad i'm still about $595 short...

I don't consider myself a particularly innovative or creative person. My thing is fashion. I like to admire it, buy it, and dream about it. So since I can't create amazing things I decided I'd document them. But, unlike some fashion blogs, I only plan on documenting things I like and I want to remember about fashion. Shoes, bags, or entire outfits that catch my eye. I've been saving pictures for as long as I can remember but I figure this blog will give me an outlet for my envy and lust.
